Speech & Language Therapy
I offer specialist, independent speech and language therapy for children with a wide range of communication needs, including speech sound difficulties, language delay and disorder, and social communication. Below you will find information about what to expect from each part of the service.
What to Expect
Exploratory Phone Call
Not sure where to start? I offer a free 15-minute phone call so you can tell me a little about your child and your concerns, and I can answer any questions you have about how I work. There is no obligation to book anything afterwards — it is simply a chance to talk things through and get a feel for whether I am the right fit for your family. By the end of the call you will have a clearer sense of whether an initial appointment or full assessment would be the right next step, or whether I might be able to point you towards another service that could help. To book a call, get in touch using the form below.
Initial Appointment
Your first appointment is a chance for us to get to know each other and for me to understand your child and your family's needs. We will start by talking through your concerns and your child's history — there is no pressure to have everything prepared, just come as you are. I will then spend time with your child, using play and informal activities to get a sense of how they communicate. By the end of the appointment you will have a clearer picture of your child's strengths and any areas where they might benefit from support, along with my recommendations for next steps. Whether that is a full assessment, a block of therapy or simply some strategies to try at home, we will decide together what feels right for your family.
Therapy Sessions
Therapy sessions are tailored entirely to your child's needs and goals. I ask at the beginning of every session what you as a parent want from the session and ensure that I equip you with the strategies you need to help your child at home. Sessions are fun and based around play, books and everyday experiences. Parents are involved throughout — I explain the reasons behind the goals and strategies and ensure that you are an active participant in the session. Together we will write take home messages that will allow you to apply the strategies you have learnt into your everyday life while you play at the park, load the dishwasher or read with your child. Sessions are 60 minutes and frequency and duration of therapy are discussed and agreed with you based on your child's needs and your family's circumstances.
Assessment
Assessment sessions are typically around 90 minutes. I use a combination of standardised assessments, structured observation and informal tasks to build a full picture of your child's speech, language and communication. Parents and carers are welcome and encouraged to be present throughout. Following assessment, I will discuss my findings with you and agree on next steps. A written report is provided detailing the assessment results, my clinical impressions and recommendations.
Reports
Clear, thorough written reports are an important part of the service I provide. I write reports following initial assessments, at regular review points during therapy, and for specific purposes such as EHCP applications or reviews, diagnostic assessments, tribunal submissions and transition planning. All reports are written in plain language so they are accessible to families as well as professionals. Reports are provided within an agreed timeframe and you are always given the opportunity to check the report for factual accuracy before it is finalised.
Attendance at Meetings
I am happy to attend meetings on your behalf or alongside you, including Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) annual reviews, Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings, school SENCO meetings and multi-agency professionals' meetings. Attending these meetings means I can contribute clinical information directly, advocate for your child's communication needs and help ensure that speech and language targets are embedded across your child's wider support plan. Meeting attendance is charged at an agreed hourly rate, including any preparation and travel time.
What Parents Say
“Rosie has the ability to connect with the child and parents. All her sessions are enjoyable for the child and essential for parents to carry work forward at home. We always leave the session feeling enthusiastic and inspired.”
— Parents of N, age 4
“We brought our daughter to Rosie after school had raised concerns in a few areas and we weren’t really sure what we needed. Rosie immediately brought clarity on both our daughter’s strengths and areas for development and was able to help us put a plan in place. All while our daughter had a lot of fun playing with her!”
— Parents of I, age 5
